LIZZY D
Resonating with soul and feeling, somewhere between 6th street and the Ryman Auditorium you will find Lizzy D with her poufy skirt and cowboy boots chasing a butterfly through a puddle. At first glance, this blue-green-eyed beauty may seem almost shy with her sparkling smile and soft spoken presence. However, anyone who has ever seen her behind a keyboard will agree that Lizzy D is a natural born talent powerhouse with a voice that will blow your hair back.
Born in Austin, Texas to a the life of the vagabond-bard, her parents first loaded her into the family station wagon and made a break for Madison, WI armed with a Bob Dylan 8-trac at the age of one year. At 6, those closest to her noticed that Lizzy was destined for the bright lights when she started playing piano. Soon after beginning to hone her craft, Lizzy became the youngest member of the Madison Children's Choir Senior International Touring Choir. The choir was her home for 8 years where she performed in Florence's Duomo as well as at Brazil's revered Easter service in Rio de Janeiro.
After her primary education, Lizzy continued in the footsteps of musical talents Dinah Shore, Rosanne Cash and Amy Grant to name a few in the city known for launching musical talent. In 2001 she enrolled into the Blair School of Music program at Vanderbilt University where she emerged with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a focus on Piano, Voice and Composition.
While excelling in her formal education, Lizzy took the opportunity to inject herself into the bustling Nashville music scene. Lizzy directed and arraigned music for an on campus co-ed A capella group as well as began to soak up some of the local musical fare. The southern soul undoubtedly shows itself in her music. Liz's first taste of stardom came when she was selected to sing back up for Shania Twain alongside 8 other singers from Madison. “Being on stage in front of 1500 people was the most magically intoxicating feeling I had ever had" said Lizzy.
Five years later, when most of her classmates and bandmates have thrown in the towel on their dream, Lizzy is still keeping hers alive. She is currently the daytime manager of famed live acoustic music venue, McGonigel's Mucky Duck in Houston, TX. During her short time in Houston she has accomplished a number of milestones including: Two Songwriter showcases at legendary Anderson Fair (launching pad for such artists as Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith and Lyle Lovett), Two Standing-Room-Only headlining Shows at McGonigel's Mucky Duck, an appearance at Austin City Limits with Austin Java on Barton Springs, a South by Southwest Showcase at the Madison as well as sharing a bill with Guy Forsyth, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Jack Saunders at the KPFT 40th Anniversary Show. She has also appeared on albums by Twilight Braodcast, Matt Stell and Joel Mercado See.
In 2009, Lizzy's EP Upturned Stones was released on the heels of her being profiled as The Houston Press's Artist of the week. From this sudden thrust into the public eye, Liz has quickly developed a large following in the fourth largest city. "I love that people have favorites that they request, and it is amazing to think that people are listening to my songs on their way to work” said Liz. Oh yes, did I mention that she writes all her own lyrics and music?
So what’s next for this soulful songstress? Liz isn’t stopping anytime soon, she is constantly writing new songs for an upcoming new album.

"I’d swim across the ocean blue. Yeah I’d drink all my sins
for another chance with you.”- Lizzy-D
